Lily McDermott

Co-Founder

Lily grew up on a small holding in Yorkshire. A childhood surrounded by nature ignited a lifelong affinity with the environment. When she should have been focusing on her finals, she founded a student political party for Change UK to challenge the Brexit referendum; this experience only emboldened her belief that northern women deserve a bigger platform in the UK.

During her degree at Oxford, she witnessed institutional injustices which inspired her female-led drama The Student Body. Her latest drama, Baby I Love You, explores how an AI sexbot would respond to the violence women face every day. Lily is compelled by a desire to write women who dare.

In 2020, she founded The Owl Nest, a tutoring company specialising in preparing students from diverse backgrounds for the UK’s leading independent and grammar school entry examinations.
